Okanagan Golf Club Men’s Club Association Committee Mandate and Guidelines Introduction:

 

All sanctioned Men’s Club events and activities will be guided by the mandates described here along with all amendments. Each committee’s mandate outlines the expectation of the board for that event or activity. Committees are expected to adhere to the board’s approved guidelines. If a committee elects to vary their procedures from the guidelines, it shall do so only after discussion with the Club Captain, who, at his discretion, may decide that the changes be discussed and approved at a meeting of the full Executive. At that time, the committee’s mandate may or may not be amended to accommodate the proposed changes to the guidelines.  

 

Financial Records:

Any committee that collects and/or disburses funds shall appoint a member to provide theassociation’s treasurer with a full record complete with receipts and disbursements that the treasurer can produce annual financial reports for all the association’s activities.

 

HandicapCommittee:

Golf Canada requires that all member clubs have at least one certified handicap official and a club handicap committee. The Handicap Committee Chair shall be the Men’s Club Vice-Captain, or any other interested member appointed by the Men’s Club Executive. The Handicap Committee may enlist additional members to carry out their duties, which include the following:

-Advise all members at the beginning and throughout the season of the importance of the handicap system and the need to report all scores.

-Examine the results of Men’s Club competitions for irregularities.

-Obtain records for new members and confirm their eligibility for competitions.

-Provide members with the rules for posting scores for games played elsewhere during our inactive season.

-Encourage committee members to participate in a Golf Canada rules or handicap seminar to assure expertise on the committee. 

-Deal with alleged infractions according to these guidelines:The Committee shall conduct reviews of scoring records for members and guests participating in our events to ensure adherence to GolfCanada’s Rules of Handicapping. All discussions with members about handicap issues are strictly confidential within the Handicap Committee. For the first report of a discrepancy or credible violation of the rules, the individual should receive only a warning and advice about how to manage his handicap. Any recommendation for disciplinary action must be presented to the Executive for approval. Notice of any decision for censure shall be communicated to the member via email by the Club Captain.

 

SpecialCommittees:

As per Section 8 of the Bylaws, the Executive Committee may assign additional committee chairs to help manage specific events and/or activities for the benefit of the membership. Examples includeCompetitionEventsChairsoraGreensCommittee, as well as the following:

Men’s Match Play Coordinator

The match-play committee’s term shall coincide with that of the Club Captain and is responsible for the match play competition throughout the season.  Participation in individual matches may, depending on the number of players involve, qualifying rounds to narrow the field to a number that reduces to a match play champion within the available time frame.  Entries by electronic invitation to all OGC Men’s Club members. Each participant will pay an entry fee. All players are guaranteed two matches. Players losing their first match fall to the B division.  

The following prizes will be awarded:

-Division A winner=40%

-Division B winner=25%

-Division A second = 25%

-Division B second = 10%

The lower handicap player schedules the match within the time frame indicated on the draw. If one player is not available to play on thes cheduled date, the onus for an alternative date within the timeline is on that player. Failure to find a suitable date results in forfeit of the player who cancels.Full (current) handicaps are used with the higher handicap player receiving strokes based on the differences between handicaps. If players are tied at the end of the round, play shall continue on hole #1 through each consecutive hole until a winner is determined.

 

Men’sClubChampionship

The Men’s Club Championship is open to all male OGC members. Invitations are sent out electronically. The fee charged for the event typically will include two rounds of golf (one on each course), dinner, net and gross prizes in each flight, deuce pot, KPs, and draw prizes.TheChampionship offers players a selection of divisions.The Club Champion (gross and net) is determined by the lowes tscore in the Championship Divisionplayed from the Black Tees. A second division, played on theBlack/Silver Tees is available for those not playing in the championship flight. The second division scoring is the Stableford system.The number of flights in each division is determined by the number of registrants.

SeniorTwo-Man Best BallTournament

The Men’s Club Executive appoints a Chair for this tournament,which may or may not happen every year.  It is open to any male 55 years of age or older with an established current Golf Canada handicap. The tournament’s format is two-man best ball. It is played over two days on both courses.  It typically includes two rounds of golf with cart, practice balls, KPs, dinner and prizing.The tournament committee is charged with finding sponsors, sending out invitations, promoting the event through contact with other golf clubs throughout the region, organizing Food and Beverage needs, securing prizes, and pricing for both OGC members and nonmembers. OGC accepts the payments and provides registration information to the committee. The committee determines whether the number of registrants and sponsorship dollars are sufficient to operate the tournament.

 

SeniorMen’sCommittee:

The Senior Men’s Committee is established annually. It includes the Senior Club Captain,Senior Vice Captain, and the heads of the various committees in this section.All senior men wishing to participate in senior’s events pay a sign up fee, a portion of which is used to fund senior activities at OGC.

 

 

  • MondaySeniors:Monday seniors is a subcommittee that manages weekly senior competitions on Monday mornings designed to provide varied team and partner competitions for Senior Men’s League members.
  • SeniorsClubChampionship:An event committee is established to manage a two-day full handicap competition to determine the Senior Club Champion. Competition rules are established by the committee.
  • Captain’sCup: This event committee operates a two day, Ryder Cup style competition open to senior Association members in the current calendar year.  The only restriction is that an equal number of players are available for both the Captain’s and Vice-Captain’s teams.

 

BreakfastClub:

The Breakfast Club is a weekly competitive mixer run by the OGC Golf Shop each Saturday morning throughout the season. OGC sends out electronic invitations and creates the groups. The format is Stableford scoring. There is a weekly fee. Players earn points through participation and their placement in the game each week.

 

Ownership Liaison:

The Men’s Club Captain or his delegate shall act as the primary liaison with the Okanagan Golf Club management and staff on issues relating to the functioning of the Men’s Club
